FlexSteel Replaces 4 Miles of Corroded Water Disposal Line in the Middle East in 7 Days

The Challenge

While operating a water disposal system in the Safaniya oil field, a large E&P company in the Middle East had reoccurring leaks in its carbon- steel water disposal pipelines. The pipelines, which suffered from severe corrosion issues, caused operation interruptions in the company's water disposal network. To overcome these challenges, the company needed a reliable pipeline solution capable of resisting the highly-corrosive, high-pressure produced water lines. Additionally, the operator wanted a pipeline system that could be quickly installed to eliminate further system downtime.

The Solution

After a thorough analysis of possible solutions to replace their water disposal system, the operator selected FlexSteel 8-inch, 2,250 psi high-temperature pipe for its replacement program. As part of its replacement program, the operator needed to restore six of its corroded-steel pipelines totaling 4.18 miles. FlexSteel pipe’s history of proven performance, corrosion- resistant design, and the ability to operate in temperatures up to 194°F, made it the clear choice above any alternative pipeline technologies. Working alongside the company’s contractors, FlexSteel and Rawabi technicians installed a total of 1,214 ft. of coiled pipe.

The Result

FlexSteel’s pipeline system provided a reliable, cost-effective solution to replace the operator’s corroded steel pipelines. The new lines enabled the operator to realize several key benefits:

  • Faster installation: FlexSteel coiled pipe was installed 80% faster than conventional steel pipelines.

  • Reduced maintenance costs: The addition of a high-quality pipeline system removed the need for expensive maintenance programs and corrosion inhibitors.

  • Provided longer pipe lengths: The capability of installing longer pipe packages provided significant cost savings and increased value through fewer connections, minimal labor, and less equipment requirements.

  • Simplified installation and improved operational efficiency: FlexSteel pipe removed the need for welding, field bending, pipeline coating, x-rays, and regular monitoring of CP systems during the installation of the pipeline.
